I wanted to share some behind-the-scenes photos of the process I went through to create work for a very exciting commission that came about through a collaboration between Etsy and the wonderful Natural History Museum, London. I was lucky enough to be one of a handful of designers picked to make work inspired by photographs from this year's Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition (we got an exciting preview of the images and a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the museum which my baby very much enjoyed from the comfort of his sling!).
The photo I chose to inspire my work showed an ice-flow from above, like a black and white abstract pattern with sudden shots of exquisite blue.
I wanted to capture the sense of texture and contrast, so I started by carving a block to use as a stamp in making textured sheets of clay to turn into the jewellery dishes, buttons and brooches that would end up in the exhibition's shop! Here are some snaps that capture the process.
The exhibition is gorgeous if you get the chance to visit, and I feel very honoured to have my work hanging out in the shop!!
